Q3
What kind
of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Vertigo films is a UK film and distribution company that specialised in small British films with the potential to become big in box office terms, if they were offered to distribute our film I think they’d accept due to the fact that our film is unique in concept and has new and existing ideas that could become something worth talking about.
Also I believe that vertigo has a strong reputation for having an open mind in the films they distribute due to the goal of making films that are unheard of a big deal at the box office, again I think that they’d accept our film as it explores themes of poverty, drugs, and crime. Which unfortunately hare all a big issue in the United Kingdom therefore there is a big audience in the UK that a UK company with a big reputation could distribute effectively to a large audience.
Q4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for my film idea is people based in
the UK around the age of 15 through 25 due to the high action and themes of
drugs, crime, and British gang crime. However it is known that there is some niche
audiences in other countries that are interested in British film. There is
pleanty of gang crime in the UK so some parts of the audiences will be able to
slightly relate to action on screen, this is why I believe the majority of the
audience would be of this nature, then again there is gang crime everywhere in
the world so there is a big possibility of the audience being huge for our
idea.
Also film buffs would have a role to play at box office
simply due to their passion for film, and of course a lot of the audience
would consist of people looking for entertainment and escapism, this would be
people who have never in fact seen or experienced any of the themes in the
film.
Q5
How did you attract/ address
your audience in your media product?
The audience was
significantly addressed in the opening sequence through the main character who
in the opening is used to show poverty and that the boy is not of a rich family
and in fact is very normal and down to earth, also the colour grading and harsh
cuts I have used make the sequence surprisingly realistic and there are things
to relate to in regards to this. I attracted the audience through the promise
of a high action film that thoroughly explores British gang crime, the opening
sequence simply is used to set up the themes and ideas of the film with a
monotone sequence, a lot of mystery surrounds the sequence also and a lot of
things are left unexplained, this is how I would attract the audience, with the
promise of mystery and thriller qualities.
Q7
LOOKING BACK ON YOUR PRELIMINARY TASKM WHAT DO YOU FEEL
YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
My film opening sequence has completely changed around
3 times, in the beginning we wanted to persue a film about childhood and its
effects on different people, now we have develped that idea to a child that
gets entangled in a world of crime, gangs, and drugs.
In comparison to my preliminary task my final film
looks completely different and has a much more proffesional look to the
footage, plus the quality of editing has significantly changed, from low
quality jumpy cuts to crisp cuts with match in action and other techniques in
making the most out of a cut
In lighting and colour grading, in the preliminary we
literally did none, our lighting was all over exposing everything in shot and
we did nothing to colour grade it, in the final film we spend a lot of thought
in grading the colour in a way that caused a gloomy atmosphere and that builds
up to a high action atmosphere, all through the use of colour, lighting was
natural and well graded in post production.
Quality of sound is very different in our preliminary as
it was recorded through the camera’s mic and therefore sounded awful, in our
final film sound wasn’t an issue as we have music over the majority of the film
and we designed some sound for moments such as a car screech or a gun shot.
In my preliminary we had a moment where we cut from
someone with her hands on her lap before the cut then by her side after the
cut, (awful continuity) in our final film every shot has been carefully
considered so that this wouldn’t happen again, we have one shot we filmed
another day where the sky goes from grey to cloudy and blue, but this was for effect
and to show realisation.
